Q: What do the suffixes on the Acura cars mean?
Like 3.5 RL, and 3.2 CL. I drive an RL and I always wondered what the last 2 letters stood for. My friend said RL=Royal Luxury, TL=True Luxury, CL=Contemporary Luxury. But IDK about my friends explanation.

A: They don't necessarily mean anything, but here are some ideas: RL = Road Luxury / Replaces Legend. (Legend is an Acura model name in Japan) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_RL TL = Touring Luxury (luxury touring car) / True Luxury CL = Contemporary luxury / Coupe Luxury (luxury coupe) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_CL

Q: what does the letters in the acura cars mean?
what does LS,GS,GS-R,and TYPE R,mean,,,I know type R is the best, but which one is the second best to get..???what do the letters mean.

A: LS and GS are Lexus models (LS means Luxury Sedan, and I'm not sure about GS). Acura's alphabet-soup system is as follows (some of the names originally meant something, but nowadays almost nobody would think of them that way -- the RL is just the RL, not the Road Luxury): NSX (sports car, now discontinued). Stood for New Sportscar eXperimental. RL (flagship midsize sedan). Stands for Road Luxury. CL (coupe model of TL, now discontinued). Stood for Coupe Luxury. TL (entry-lux midsize sedan). Stands for Touring Luxury. RSX (sport compact coupe, now discontinued). No meaning. TSX (pre-lux compact/midsize sedan). No meaning. CSX (premium sub/compact sedan, Canada only, replaced EL). No meaning. MDX medium crossover vehicle. No meaning. RDX compact crossover vehicle. No meaning. Type-R is Honda/Acura's high-performance brand. The alphanumeric system that Acura helped pioneer (although the German marques have long used similar systems) is actually a marketing strategy. In times past, one might have said "What do you drive?" and get an answer like "I drive an Eldorado," and that would be that. Carmakers, especially newer arrivals like Acura, figured that if they used some arcane combination of letters (and numbers, in some cases), would lead to people to repeat the brand name, thus reinforcing "Acura" as a maker of luxury cars in people's minds through word-of-mouth. Example: "What do you drive?" "I drive a TL." "What's that?" "It's an Acura." It's a strange system, but it's taken the industry by storm. So that's how the system works. Today, the RL is a competitor to the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Cadillac STS, Infiniti M35, Jaguar S-Type, Lexus GS 350, Lincoln LS/MKS, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Saab 9-5, and Volvo S80. The TL competes with models like the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G35, Jaguar X-Type, Lexus ES 350, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Saab 9-5, and Volvo S60. The TSX is almost a niche of its own, competing against entry-lux sports sedans like the entry-level Audis and BMW 325, Lexus IS 250, and Volvo S40. The crossovers compete against similarly-sized vehicles.

Q: Is all Acura cars imported from Japan or made in the N. America?
Acura from Japan ? Made in Canada or USA?

A: Acura is a japanese company, they make it there, then import it here and sell it in North America. A few people I know from japan dont even know what Acura is.

Q: cars like acura integra and honda prelude?
what are some cars that LOOK like the acura integra and the honda prelude? i know these are old cars but i'm not specifically looking for an old car. it can be new or old, i don't care.

A: It depends if you are looking at the NEW Acura Integra and Type SH Honda Preludes, or the old square ones through 1994. Some cars that have general similarities with the OLD one are: ....Dodge Daytona Mitsubishi Starion and Chrysler Conquest Nissan 240SX umm... Mitsubishi 3000GT is a stretch, but Mitsubishi 3000GT SUBARU IMPREZA It is hard to get it exact, it has been suc a long time. Now, like the new one: MERCURY COUGAR *the new one for 3 years Nissan 300ZX SUBARU IMPREZA umm.... Mitsubishi Lancer kinda, the first one was weak as hell... Dodge Neon. FORD FOCUS Chevrolet Cavailer Use your imagination in some, and you will see what i mean. They kinda looked like a lot of cars, depending on how you look at it.

Q: Are Acura cars very reliable/good 1st cars?
I am 17 and in March i am going to be able to buy a cheap car..i was looking on craigslist and saw a nice 1991 Acura Legend. So, are older acura's any good? If not can you suggest some cars that are easy to maintain etc.?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.enacre.net

Q: Which of these cars is the best Acura or Honda?
I'm looking to buy a car, but I want to buy the best. I'm a teenager so I need some help with the choice.

A: They are both excellent, and you can't go wrong with either one, so get the one that suits you best. Acuras are usually a little sportier, but als a little more expensive, and most of them take premium fuel (whereas Hondas do not). Good Luck.

Q: Who else wishes Acura would go back to real names for its cars?
The only way I can keep their names straight is to think the "RL" stands for "Replaced Legend". Legend, Vigor, Integra - those were all great names. I hate the alphabet soup style of naming cars that is so popular today.

A: Me, they use those letter number codes because Mercedes and BMW use them. It seems like Honda is trying to prove that their cars are as good as the German cars. An Acura has no need to act like any other car. They should hire some creative English people to come up with a set of unique names for their cars, that would give them a brand identity.

Q: are the acura tsx good cars?
are the 2004-2007 acura tsx good cars? are they reliable, long lasting, good in performance, etc? iam looking to buy one and was wondering if its a good buy.

A: I bought a 2006 Acura TSX in October of '05. I like it a lot. I also got the navigation system and XM radio, so it's a really fun car. I have had absolutely no problems with it, except for this idiot woman who backed into me after it was one month old! It is a little overpriced, but it is a great car.

Q: Acura cars have no personality?
I have an Acura TL, mechanically speaking it runs perfect, gets good gas, comfortable. Passable handling, and performance. But it has no character...like it has no soul. Okay, so a car can't really have a soul, but you know what I mean. I love cars, absolutely do...I go hours just to see various autoshows, etc. All my previous cars, I have washed twice a week, given names to, it felt like they were part of the family. With the TL...4 washes in 6 months, no name, and it's parked very far from the house. What do you think? Acura has no personality?

A: My 2001 Integra has more personality than any other car I have been in. To each their own I guess... A TL isn't exactly a "sports" car either.

Q: What is the difference between Acura models and Honda model cars?
give example

A: Acura tends to lean more towards luxory, where-as Honda leans more towards affordability. Both are Honda Co. brands, and both are very similer under the hood (depending on which models you're comparing) but Acura tends to be more luxurious.

Q: are acura integras good cars to work on?
i am thinking about getting an Acura Integra and am wondering how easy and affordable it is to work on them and make fast. Please give ideas and prices plz thanks

A: any 4 cylinder cars are pretty hard to get high numbers WITHOUT going turbo. expect to be putting down A LOT of money if you wish to tune your integra to get high numbers (and i mean +300whp and above) and be prepared to be discouraged by the piss-poor numbers you get from just exhausts intakes headers and what not. also a lot of 4 cylinder cars such as the 240sx and integras are thief friendly, so you're gonna have to put a lot of security investment in it too. if you get a 6 cylinder they're so much easier to tune and very quiet. as the engine gets bigger they're much better with mods. so if you go 4 cylinder go turbo thats all i'm gonna say, and no turbo isn't easy at all to go. and it's definitely not as reliable as a car as a NA would be. goodluck

Q: Why are such old cars like the Acura NSX, Nissan Skyline, Mazda RX-7, and the Toyota Supra so expensive?
They don't go as fast as say a C5 corvette and yet they're still sold at double the price. Is it just because they're out of production imports?

A: its because they are the cars everybody want to get to make tuners or drifter cars out of. because they are in demand the onwers can jack the prices up and find some fool who will pay that.

Q: Need car advise Sould i trade these cars acura?
Need car advise Sould i trade these cars acura? need car advise Sould i trade these cars acura , i have a 1992 acura legend ls 4dr salvage title needs work a guy offered me a trade for a 1993 acura integra 2dr w/ 116k clean title it runs good the car has bad black paint and the front drivers fender and hood is white my legend was bondo in the front hood area (ok job) but has but the rest of the paint is good and shiny sould i trade ??? my legend has 160k and has rear suspension problems

A: I think yes for a couple reasons. First a 2 door Acura is more sporty than a four door. Second, a salvage title will always hurt the value of a car. By putting the same money in the two door to fix it up instead of your car, you will have a better car.

Q: why wont my cars fan work? 1994 acura integra?
hi, i have a 1994 acura integra whos fan wont work even after driving for an hour. I got a new radiator about 3 weeks ago, and today my car temperature gauge showed that it was starting to overheat, I pulled over, and there was no coolant or antifreeze in thradiato or reservoir tank, what happened? I filled the radiator with water and it doesnt leak. What could be the problem for the fan not turning on?

A: The cooling system was probably not completely filled after the radiator replacement. Trapped air in the cooling system prevents coolant from completely filling the system. Always add coolant to the reservoir tank when the engine is cool. Drive the car with the heater in the on/high setting until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. Turn off the car and allow the car to cool, then check the coolant level. Add coolant if needed. You may have to repeat this a couple of times. After the cooling system is completely full and the coolant level is at the proper level, drive the car and check the operation of the heater and cooling fan. Keep in mind that at highway speeds the fan will probably not engage because sufficient air is flowing through the radiator. Stop and go driving at slower speeds will usually be when the cooling fan operates. If the overheating problem persists and the fan does not come on, then it is possible your cooling fan sensor needs to be replaced or perhaps the fan motor is defective. If the fan works but the engine continues to overheat, it may be time to visit a repair shop to investigate the problem further.

Q: Does anyone know if there are any Honda or Acura cars with vtec and automatics from years 98 -01?

A: Yes, my 1999 Honda Accord V-6 has vtec and is automatic. Just so you know, it's a GREAT car!
