Q: How do you turn on air conditioner in Audi A6?
I just bought a 1999 Audi A6. I tried turning on the air and it looks like it should be on, but maybe I'm pushing the wrong buttons?? I got the air to come on for a second because I barely felt it coming out but I tried to make it blow harder and I shut it off somehow. I might add it WAS cold, just not a lot was coming out. I am not used to all this luxury in a car! Please help.
I tried that, and it sounds like its trying but nothing comes out. Is it possible the blower went out?! How much does that cost to replace?
A: Hit the "+" button a couple times, display should have a snow flake
Q: 1999 Audi A6 Engine cut off after 10 mins while parked?
I have a 1999 Audi A6. The car automatically shut off after 10 minutes while parked and if I try to start again, I could only hear the rely going tic tic tic. Nothing else happens. The battery is fine by the way. I haven't took it out for a drive since I am afraid if it stops in the middle of the road. If anyone could give me some help here, I'd really appreciate that. Thanks.
A: hmmm, not much to go on. Anything ecu related would be throwing the check engine light. If you ARE getting the check engine light, stop in ANY of your local auto parts place like Advance, or NAPA etc and ask them to scan your ecu. It's a free service and you'll know if you've captured any codes and what the source "might" be.
Your A6 has a volt gauge in the instrument cluster. It should be reading ~14v when the car is running. Is it? but keep in mind that once your car is running, even if the battery is bad/weak, it should still run and die off SLOWLY which you can see while watching the volt gauge, not just SHUT OFF.
Audis are very sensative to low voltage though and the relay clicking noise IS a sign. Again, I'd first make sure you have a GOOD connection at the battery (under hood, by the firewall, under the plastic battery door) and then head to a Advance Auto or similar and have them scan codes and test your battery....
Q: What type of oil to use in Audi A6?
I have an Audi A6 2.8 Quattro. I am normally get the oil changed at the dealer, but I am going to do it myself this time. My question is: It has 129,000 miles on it, would Mobil 1 Clean High Mileage 10W-30 synthetic be alright? Or should I go with the Mobil 1 0W-40 European formula. I just figured with as many miles as I have racked up since it was new, it may be time to go up in oil weights.
A: just go to autozone they will tell you
Q: Timing Belt Problem with my 1991 Audi A6?
I have an 1991 Audi A6 2.0l
My local mechanic changed my timing belt about 5 months ago
A week ago the engine died and when I took the timing belt cover off I noticed the crankshaft gear had shattered
The mechanic and the other garages in the area are saying this happens and is nothing to do with the changing of the timing belt
Has anyone had a similar experience or know of a website this has been discussed on...
Note, I can't afford a new engine.
A: those rears are not made of the strongest material in the world but it takes a lot of force to shatter them so it could be either or
and as long as you arent trying to operate the engine as it sits you should just need a new crankshaft gear
Q: How do you fold the back seats in a 1999 Audi A6?
I know that it can't be that complicated, but try as I may, I can not seem to fold the back seats in my '99 A6? I believe that the '99 is similar to the 2000 and 2001 models, but if anybody could give me some DETAILED instructions, that would be great. Thanks!
A: On the far right and far left of the seat there is a lever pull up on it. Very simple- of course, reading the owner's manual will tell you too.
Q: What will it cost me to do a tune up on my Audi A6?
I would like to do a major tune up on my 99 A6 Quattro 2.8L (automatic).
I want to change the spark plug wires, fuel filter, PCV valve, oxygen sensor oil filter, air filter, distributor cap and rotor. Am I forgetting anything?
What would this cost for me to do myself (if it's an easy task) as opposed to doing it at an autoshop or dealer?
A: Well, I don't believe you have a distributor cap. You have a coil pack. You can start here and price the parts.

Good on you for doing your own work. I don't know if you need to change your fuel filter or not, but it looks like it's easy enough to change.
Q: What can I do if my new car an Audi A6 with 15K miles needs to have a new transmission?
I am concern that my brand new Audi with 15K miles needs a new transmission. When I went to my routine service and ask them about some shift issues and then I got a call from the dealer saying they are working what to do with Audi Corporate since my car needs to have a new transmission. I am concern that this would give me a lot of issues on the future and it would lower my trade in value later.
A: It should still be under warrenty get the new transmission and then trade it in. I wouldnt want a car that had problems such as this with such low miles on it, tells me that the car will have more problems down the road.
Q: Adding transmission fluid to 99 Audi A6 Quattro?
My 99 Audi A6 is low on tranny fluid. I don't have the service manual. I know this is a 'picky' car. Is there a special brand I need to use? Is it OK to add right after shutting off the engine, or should it be added cold. Thanks.
A: Yes, you need to use a certain type. For the 99 A6 you NEED to use the "Automat Transmission Fluid" (which is manufactured by PENTOSIN). Its available at the Audi dealerships as well as online for around $15 a liter.
As far as the engine temperature...you need to make sure that you change the fluids when the transmission fluid is still warm BUT the car has cooled down. Which basically means, turn it on and let it idle until it reaches the normal running temperature.
If your wondering, where is a website that has the ATF:

Q: Air bag red warning light on after routine service - Audi A6?
Two days after my audi A6 had a service during which the engine management computer was checked and some error messages erased by my mechanic, the red airbag light came on. My mechanic after consideraton advised I go to the audi dealership .Can the error message be cleared and the airbag sensor be reprogrammed economically without the audi dealership getting involved?
A: your mechanic should be able to fix it. If he cant, he may not be well knowledged in the vehicle he is working on. This isnt a hard thing to do and if he cant figure this out, you may want to see a new mechanic.
Q: How do you remove the passenger door panel on a 1995 Audi A6?
I got the top two screws on the top front and rear of the door, but there is a "hidden" screw somewhere. not under the window switch.
A: Maybe is the door handle, try to find a screw or a clip. Also try sliding the panel too.

Q: I need help working the seat memory on my 1997 Audi a6?
Every time I unlock my car, the seat and mirrors adjust to the previous owner's settings. There is and on/off switch which is in the middle of four buttons labeled 1-4.
A: Set the seat to your desired position. Next, hit the number you want it to be set at and MEM together. A chime should go off signifying its been saved. Done. Did you ever think to read the owner's manual?
