Q: Audi TT???
Im thinking of getting it for my first car. Do you think thats a good idea? Ill get it when i turn 16. is there anything i should know about it?

A: Depends....they aren't very good sports cars, but you'll get noticed. I'd say get the slower model since they are far cheaper and the "faster" model is far more expensive but still a slow car. They're basically a "hey look at me" car. Good luck with your choice.

Q: Is it possible to have a sunroof fitted in an Audi TT?
My father has just bought the TT with a roof, and has asked if there is anywhere he could get a sunroof installed, or whether it is impossible due to the size and shapre of the roof. Thanks in advance.

A: Yes its possible but i dont think you would like the result as you rightly say the roof curvature would make it very difficult to get a decent fit. Also the resale value of the car would be significantly lower than leaving as it is. Mick UK.

Q: What should i choose - a Audi TT or a VW scirroco?
I'm about to spend 20k on a car - i have it down to 2- a new shape Audi TT in black or a new shape VW Scirocco in black- What would you choose?? i have test driven both & love both - but i really cant decide!

A: The Audi will have higher insurance and higher maintinence because it is an Audi. (By the way, Audi is owned by VW). The TT only has 2 seats and a tiny boot, wheras the VW has 5 seats and a big boot. So you could take al your mates and their bags out somewhere. I'd go with the VW but before you go to the dealer, I'd drive the new Golf GTI. It'll cost about the same, but has tweaked bits and 10 extra horsepower. It also has 5 big doors. But I;d alsp try Vauxhall's Astra VXR and Ford's Focus ST

Q: When to change the Timing belt on a Audi TT?
Have a 2002 TT with 50K, should I get the timing belt done now or wait till 75k? I have read some horror stories about the belt breaking causing over $6000 in repairs.

A: I had an 01TT Quattro Roadster and my shop has done timing belt jobs on them as well. YES, change the timing belt. But I don't think the main problem is timing belt failing. #1 is the water pump and #2 is the tensioner. You usually have some warning with tensioner failure. You'll hear what sounds like a knocking noise, which is the tensioner flopping around because the hydraulic fluid has leaked out. The water pumps are well known to fail prematurely. Audi used plastic impellers in the water pumps. It is very common for those impellers to crack or dissentigrate. When they fall apart, the pieces end up lodged in unknown places. Don't have an OEM water pump with the plastic impeller installed when you have the timing belt done. If the shop doesn't know where to get a water pump with a metal impeller, order it yourself from ECS Tuning. As a matter of fact, order the entire timing belt kit, as it also includes the tensioner. The metal impeller water pumps from ECS are made by the same company that makes the OEM water pump. So, they are exactly the same except for the impeller. Do not get the water pump from the dealer because they still use plastic impellers. My personal TT had about 65K miles when I did the timing belt. The impeller was missing pieces and crumbled when I pressed on it with my thumb. The other TT's we've done timing belt jobs on have all had either cracked impellers or missing pieces. With the new water pump, you'll be good for 75K.

Q: Audi TT-What is the third button in the sliding compartment under AC controls?
There are three buttons-one to pop the trunk, one to pop the gas tank, and the last one? It has a picture of the car and three lines like radio waves. Any ideas?! Thanks!

A: It should beInterior Monitoring button. This button forms part of the interior checks for change in air movement in the car when locked with key and the SAFE red light on the door is on/blinking.Incse the interiormonitori senses change in air movement in the interior, the alarm is activated.I hope this helps.

Q: Can an Audi TT hardtop accomodate a baby seat?
And if it can, is it recommended? The TT has small bench seats, doesn't it?

A: If you can disable the airbag system on at TT, then it should be fine. Otherwise, front seats are not meant for baby car seats. It can kill your child when airbags deploy.

Q: Which is a better sports car to buy: a 4-yr old Porsche Boxter worth £24 thou or new Audi TT worth £28 thou?
My husband is torn between these two options. He likes the Audi bec our current family car is an Audi and the fact that the choice is brand new, and service is not a problem, but still he says"a Porsche is a Porsche".

A: Frankly, I would go for the Audi TT. From any point of view, this model is simply destroying Mercedes Benz. Indeed, the quote "a Porsche is a Porsche" is old fashioned. Anyway, if your husband insists on these second-hand Boxter, I would recommend you any 911. As the SLK, the Boxer is considered a cheap failure.

Q: why does my audi tt sometimes make a moaning metallic whine noise?
I think this may be a compressor/ac issue--it comes from under the hood. Sounds like metal on metal.

A: I think I know what your talking about, my A4 does something like that. Its just the pumps going, its nothing to worry about unless it sound like something is rubbing.

Q: How much money to make 2001 Audi TT fast?
The Quattro. I have little knowledge in the Audi department. Let's say to make it an 11 second car. Thanks!

A: chip it giacusa.com run ya about 500 then you can get some good turbos in it also can get a lil help from cold air intake and a new muffler such as borla or magnaflow id say it would cost you about 1000-1500 go to audiforums.com theres a lot of good info there

Q: Should i get the Audi TT convertible or Hard Top? Does the Audi TT convertible have any problems?
Any help would be nice! It's going to be my first car and I really really want the Audi TT convertible but my dad said hard tops are better and less money... So throw answers at me! Did I say my daddy would buy the car? Did I say He would pay? Did I say I wanted it new? You are such a bitch, go get a life and think before you post you loser...

A: You should get the Audi TT convertible because it looks better than the hard top; and I'm not aware of any problems it may have.

Q: I have an Audi TT, Sometimes it will start, run for a second, then stall. No check engine light comes on.?
It takes 1-6 cranks for it to keep running. I've had one relay replaced but it has not fixed the problem. Mechanics are stumped.

A: I agree with Saint - TT's (and pretty much all VW/Audi's) are unreliable. I had a friend that bought a 2000 TT and I bought a 2000 Contour. He had the better car, right? Ha! Nicer? Sure, when it was not in the shop, but better? No way. He had problems with the suspension, power windows, glovebox latch, exhaust. All I did with my Ford was regular maintenance. If you don't believe me, check with consumer reports or JD Power, you don't see these cars winning any reliability awards. Get rid of it and buy a Honda or Toyota.

Q: where can I find interior audi TT door grab handles??
I have a 2002 Audi TT and have always kept it in good condition but the interior door grab handles are made of a kind of rubber and they are pretty scratched up. I really want to replace them (something aftermarket is fine with me as along as it looks nice). Please let me know if this has happened to you and you know how to fix this. Thanx =)

A: I've seen carbon fiber ones. They are expensive and the door panel on tt's is notoriously hard to remove. Enjoy your tt. I miss mine. BTW, I have a Bentley's manual for tt brand new, never openned and I sold my tt. Interested? e me at rotuselan at yahoo

Q: Audi TT not holding charge. How complicated to DIY the alternator?
I just bought the car yesterday - 2001 225hp. Last night it stalled taking off from stop sign, then lost power and died. Battery has been checked by Auto Zone. They charged it. Car cranked up after installed. 1 hour later it won't start again. From some of these posts, sound like we should start with the alternator. Can we do it ourselves?

A: Your battery was obviously in a low state of charge when they "checked" and charged it. You need to have the charging output checked while the engine is running. If this is OK the voltage of the battery may indicate that it is bad. Find someone more knowledgeable to check this out for you before you assume the alternator's bad and you go about changing it. Good Luck.

Q: I want to buy an Audi TT but my credit is really bad?
However my pay is very good, the only problem is that I am just 20 so is really hard for me to even get finance, can someone help as to how to go about getting that car?

A: You'll need a giagantic amount of money down (20% of 40k). You'll pay about 16% or more interest. Which means your payment will approach $800/month. Combine that with the $300/month insurance, and you're looking at paying $1100/month for a CAR! A depreciating asset. Something that will be worth $20k in 2 years....and you'll still have that $1100/mo expense AND STILL OWE FOR 4 MORE YEARS!!!!! Do you realize that you could buy a HOUSE with that kind of payment? Make the same payments, and then turn around and sell it in 2 years, and get ALL your money back + appreciation!?!
