Q: How much does servicing/parts costs on a Honda Civic compared to a Mondeo?
We have a Mondeo at the moment but are looking at getting a new Honda Civic next and wondered what the difference is with costs of servicing and parts etc. We pay about £150 per service for our 51 mondeo at the moment. TIA.

A: Hi Good choice of car the Honda and you will find in the long term the Honda works out the least expensive to service and maintain For very simple reasons less goes wrong with the Honda and parts are about the same price . Honda main dealer labour rates are a little higher at times than ford but shop around they are not fixed in stone . Hope this helps

Q: What is the difference between the honda civic sedan 2007 version and the honda civic sedan 2008 version?
From my understanding the only difference between the honda 2006 and 2007 civic sedan is that the 2007 civic sedan has an 'audio in' adapter (i.e. for ipod). I own the 2007 version, it's an awesome car, wondering what else they can feature in the 2008 model

A: the 08 civic has tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) and that is it

Q: What is the difference between honda civic eg#'s?
Haha so I didn't want to go through the trouble of signing up for hondatech or anything like that and asking and getting flamed. I couldn't find it in their searches either. So what's the difference between say a honda civic eg4 and eg6 or eg9?

A: The EG4 is the VTi Civic hatchback, the EG6 is the SiR & SiRII hatchback, and the EG9 is the SiR 4dr. For more specs and to see the differences between them all here's a link to Honda's official Japanese site (translated). http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&trurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.honda.co.jp%2fHOT%2fModelData%2fcivic%2findex.html

Q: Can I change the stereo in my Honda Civic to a regular CD player?
I bought a 2001 Honda Civic yesterday and the factory installed Stereo does not work. I want to fit another CD player that I have but the Civic has an irregular fascia panel shape. How do I fit a rectangular CD Player? Can I get new surround? Its the model without steering wheel controls so it should be pretty straightforward to change over apart from the different shape.

A: you can

Q: What kind of gas does a honda civic require?
I just got a 2003 honda Civic lx 4cyl what kind of gas does it require? premium, regular etc?

A: regular 87 or you can go with plus 89. that will get you little better gas mileage and more performance but always get it from a good name brand gas station. *** not from cheap gas station. trust me I own a repair shop I see so many cars stalling because of people stop at cheap non name brand stations to save $1

Q: What performance exhaust would be the best for my Honda Civic Hatchback 1999?
My son asked for a birthday present and this is what he asked for only i don't know what would be the best for what he is looking to do to his car. Its a 1999 Honda Civic DX hatchback. He is looking for a cat-back exhaust system that both sounds and looks nice on his car. Any suggestions on brands types etc let me know because the sooner the better! Thanks ~Dave

A: Well as far as i know the best exhaust system out today for honda civics is the DC Sports performance exhaust systems.. So i would probably recommend this one : http://www.slickcar.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=2963 I would also look in to DC Sports headers and an intake system i have the AEM V2 on my honda it is incredible it added a couple of horses and got me better mpg, they are also both very good. Hope this helped.

Q: How much does a new transmission for a 2002 Honda civic cost, with installation?
I have a 2002 honda civic with a manual transmission, I have a real strong feeling that the transmission is about to go. How much do you think a new one is going to cost with installation?

A: The cost varies depending on which auto shop your getting serviced at. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're located in New Jersey? In that case a good place to start would be: http://www.autorepairinnewjersey.com/Category/Auto-Transmission/ But, make sure the cost involved isn't anything larger than the sum of what your car is worth. Good Luck!

Q: How to override the compressor relay on my 99 honda civic?
My compressor keeps kicking on and off every few seconds and it is full of refrigerant. I want to override the relay on my 99 honda civic so that the compressor will not kick off. Thanks!

A: It is either not full or the pressure switch on the reciever drier is bad. Possibly some other mechanical malfunction such as restriction on low side cutting off compressor. DO NOT BYPASS or you will be replacing compressor due to failure from lack opf lubrication. Put a set of A/C guages on it at idle pressure should be steady somewhere around 200 psi high (red) side and 40 psi low side. If low side drops down to 25 or less and compressor cuts off AND high side is low add refrigerant. If high side is normal OR high and Low is LOW then their is a restriction in system. Compressor is cutting off as a safety feature to insure it gets lube, lubrication come INTO compressor from low side. if their is a restriction or pressure is low then compressor cuts off till pressure comes back up then cuts on again and repeats as nec. REPEAT DO NOT BYPASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHECK SYSTEM TO FIND OUT WHY IT'S CUTTING OFF. EQUIVALENT TO A FUSE KEEPS BLOWING HOW DO I BYPASS THE FUSE, CONSIDER THE COMPRESSOR CUTTING OFF AS A FUSE.

Q: How do I know if my Honda Civic condenser is bad?
I have a Honda Civic EX 1995. I live in Austin, TX and my car a/c works fine in the morning when its not that hot, but takes very long to cool in the afternoon/evening. In addition, the engine makes knocking sounds while idling with the A/C on. The mechanic told me that this was due to a condenser problem--and gave me a $400 quote! My question is if the condenser is bad, would the A/C cool at all? Ironhand, Thanks for the response, I'll check for the things you said, but meanwhile Iooks like have another problem! I drove home fie today, no idling at all, but when I got to my driveway, the engine died on me! I tried to start it and it starts up for a second and then dies. Its doing this off and on, sometimes it starts fine, other time, it starts and dies! I am thinking its a loose connection in some electrical part, any ideas?

A: Not for long. The ONLY purpose for the condenser is to exchange heat, and therefore transport refrigerant. No moving parts. If it fails, it won't retain its refrigerant. If the refrigerant is low, the compressor could conceivably rattle or knock, but in that event the low pressure switch should turn off the compressor. Have you had a front-end collision? Have you struck a parking curb too hard? It is difficult to tell if the condenser is damaged without a good inspection. Look at it VERY CLOSELY and see if it has any "wet" spots or areas where it appears oily. This is a clear indication of a leaky condenser.

Q: Why is the clock in my 2007 Honda Civic adding minutes?
A year ago I bought a new Civic EX and it adds two minutes every month to the digital clock. My dealer says this is very common and within acceptable range by Honda. After several visits to the dealer, they are unable to determine the cause and unwilling to pay for any further work (as the car is under warranty). Do I have to live with this?

A: Sounds like you may have to get used to it for now. Digital clocks are controlled by it's own timer in a microchip that may consist of a special arrangement between tiny resistor and capacitor components. Together it creates a constant frequency that can be used to tell time. If the resistor and capacitors are bad and out of specifications, the timer will fall out of sync against the real time. A new digital clock replacement will quickly resolve your issue. If your car is still under warranty, you should talk to the manager and demand to have them simply install a new one instead of fumbling around for months to understand why it falls out of sync. It should just be less than $5 to get a simple new digital clock. (make sure you mark the old one somehow so you can tell if they really did install a new one) Good luck!

Q: How do I fix the power windows on my 87 Honda civic?
I just bought an 87 honda civic, which is great, but the power windows are SO slow to come up, and sometimes don't come up at all. They usually always move down, but won't come up (except for really slowly). I have spent alot of money on this car already, and I need the cheapest possible solution, so some advice would be appreciated. The rubber in between the windows seems to cling a bit. Is it possible thats causing the delay on the wind up? I know its an old car, so maybe thats where the problem is, but is there an extremely economic solution to this problem? Thank you.

A: Well you could try using a little armor all or silicone spray on the places where it contacts the window. But my money is the silenoid/relay is bad, you have to take the door panel off to replace it, they are usually about $5-$10 each. If that didn't fix it check the switch, if you have redundant switches see if any make them go faster, sometimes you have a voltage drop when the switches get old, they too are pretty cheap to replace. Other than that its the window motor getting weak and they will cost $65-$120 per motor and require removal of the door panel, then you have to grind the heads off the rivets that hold the motor in. Then put in the new motor. A repair manual can be picked up at the local parts store for 10 bucks and will guide you thru the process to fix it.

Q: How to remove a panel from my Honda Civic (area behind the front headlight)?
I have a sizable dent (maybe the size of a volleyball) in the panel that is behind the front right headlight of my Honda Civic. If I were able to remove the panel, I'm pretty sure I could push the dent out (the metal isn't really bent, just "pushed in"). Is there any easy way for me to remove the panel and then reaffix it? Thanks!

A: You'll need a ratchet wrench (and an extension for the bolt at the door hinge) and 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding the side fender panel. 3 on top, one behind the door hinge. You'll also need to remove the screws underneath holding the splash guard. Once removed, you'll be able to pull out the panel (side fender) very easily. However, you may have a hard time trying to pull/push the dent back into shape. I had to jump on mine to form the metal sheet to an acceptable shape, lol. If you're lucky, you can visit your local auto junk yard for just this part and find the one in your model and in your color. Then replace it. Good luck!
