Q: Can I switch through the gears in my Honda Odyssey manually?
I have a 2001 Honda odyssey with an automatic transmission and I see that it has D4, D3, 2 and 1 gears, what i want to know is if i could treat it like a manual transmission and start with gear 1 and switch all the way to D4 and not harm the engine?

A: You could. The major difference between manual and automatic is that with manual transmission, the torque is transmitted through pads (similar to brake pads). With automatic transmissions, the energy transfer is through the transmission fluid (like two fans facing one another). You could manually go from one "gear" to another with an automatic transmission. But there is no point to it. You can manually fix the car to one gear for braking or climbing purposes. Say you are going down a very high mountain. You don't want to wear out the brakes so you set the car in 3rd gear. This means that your car would most likely not exceed 45 mph, the potential energy of your car is converted to heat instead of kinetic energy (car going faster). The heat is then dissipated through your radiator. Same with climbing. Say your car is struggling to get up a mountain or hill. You can spare your engine, avoid the risk of cracking a cylinder, by going to a lower gear and reving the engine at a high RPM. Your engine turns faster but there is less strain on the engine. (Similar to bicycles. When climbing a hill, you switch to a lower gear. Your feet go round and round faster but it is easier. You climb slower but it is overall easier).

Q: why is MPG on my honda odyssey 2001 so low?
I have honda odyssey 2001 with 120 000 miles. It drives only 16 miles per gallon mix city and highway. I'm not aggressive driver. Is that normal and what can I do to improve fuel economy.

A: if your engine is going through that much fuel, a lot of it will be coming out the exhaust. start with a tune up, air filter fuel filter plugs and if warrented plug wires, if that don't help, take it somewhere and have it put on an engine analyzer, see what is giving you problems. i hope this helps

Q: what is a good replacement motor i can put into a 1983 fl250 honda odyssey for more power?
i have a 1983 honda odyssey fl250 that i restored it runs now with the original motor but i have heard of people making mods and putting different motors in the frame that are more powerful im just not sure what kind they used and was looking for some suggestions

A: Ask your local Honda dealer...

Q: How do you listen to XM radio in a 06 Honda Odyssey??
My dad bought a 06 Honda Odyssey and i dont know how to listen to XM can someone please tell me?? were can u buy a factory system or a afterfactory system

A: You probably do not have that feature installed. Just because the factory radio is XM ready does not mean that the antenna and interface has been installed. If it has, it will come up as a source (am/fm/tape/cd/xm). If it is not installed, you will not get the XM source. You can purchase the factory system or an aftermarket system that will work with the factory radio.

Q: How good is a New Honda Odyssey?
we are thinking about having a 4th baby. Which requires us getting a new car. We really like the Honda Odyssey, can anyone give me any reviews on it.

A: Looks like you have a choice between a 2007 Oddy on clearance, or waiting for the 2008s to arrive. I don't think there was a remodel on the 2008, so it's going to be the same more or less like the 2007. The Oddy is your basic passenger hauling workhorse. You can upgrade all the way up to the touring model w/ the DVD entertainment and GPS nav and leather seats. I own a 1999 Oddy, an ancestor of the 2008, marking the major remodel as we know it. It's got almost 220,000 miles on it and still rolling. Only major repair is the infamous transmission, which went out in 2003 around 93,000. It appears Honda has finally figured out the problem and more recent vintages have not had the tranny problem. The Oddy reminds of my old Civc hatchback on steroids. Despite the wide and long wheelbase, the setup helps make it hug the road more like a sedan than a lunking minivan. Obviously the competition (Toyota, Nissan, Chevy, Dodge) has caught up to the Oddy in different ways. However, you know what you're getting w/ the Oddy: Honda reliability.

Q: Honda Odyssey - What is the best model year?
I want to buy a used Honda Odyssey and I wanted to know if any particular model year was superior over the rest.

A: I have an '07 Odyssey EX-L an it's great! EX-L and up comes standard with VCM cylinder deactivation, all trims have a powerful engine, and everything but the LX has the power sliding doors. I'd say get an '06 or '07, they worked out most of the bugs after the '05 redesign, and I know you can find a great deal on them now! If you can't afford these, look into an '04 Odyssey, they aren't as "loaded" with features/ options as the new ones, but they still are quality.

Q: I need help finding an OEM Replacment for Honda Odyssey.?
My family owns a 1995 Honda Odyssey, and we want to replace the original carpet floor mats. I have checked HandA accessories, Ebay, and AutoAnything, but they only sell the all season mats, and I am looking for original replacements. How to turn off the maintenance light (not the check engine light) on a 20026 Honda Odyssey EXL

Q: What colour should the paper in a new fuel filter for Honda Odyssey be?
I have a 2001 JDM Odyssey with a rather strange shape fuel filter. The book recommends replacement at 40,000km intervals. The dealer suggested it didn't need replacing unless there was a drop in fuel pressure. I decided to replace it anyway. Have now cut into the used filter and found the paper is very brown. Is this indicative of the filter being dirty?

A: not exactly dirty..but used. wether you have drivien 40 thousand, 100 thousand or 500 miles, it will be colored from use. however, the darker it is the more used it is, take a look at some new oil compared to what comes out as a reference. if youve never changed your filter in 40k...im surprised it still runs
