Q: honda shadow?
I have an 85 honda shadow 500. The past couple of days its been acting up. I start it up and run it and when I give it gas, it acts like its not getting any. when I give it gas, the engine goes and then the RPMs slow down and then they will speed up again and when i let it sit it will just cut off after a fiew minutes. I think its a carb issue because its getting spark. Anyone have any sugjestions?
A: I would check the fuel filter first, especially if it's been sitting all winter. Change the filter and run a good carb cleaner in the fuel and see if that helps.
Q: 1987 honda shadow 1100 - How many miles will the engine last?
I'm planning on purchasing a 1987 Honda VT1100 Shadow tomorrow, but the engine has 87,000 miles on it. The owner has had it his whole life and he says he has changed the oil every 2-3000 miles, which is good - but is it a wise decision to get this bike? I'm getting it for a great deal, but I don't want the engine to crap out in 10,000 miles. Thanks.
A: That wouldn't be too many miles on a car with a V6 but
it's quite a few miles on a bike with a two cylinder engine.
That bike was built when Honda really built them to last, but it won't last forever. I suspect another 10k-20k and something will let go.
Q: How much would insurance be on a honda shadow for someone who is 16 years old?
I really want a motorcycle because of the good gas mileage but ive heard that insurance rates are pretty expensive for a 16 year old even if it is something like a honda shadow or honda rebel that dosen't have a whole lot of power. Is this true? If so around how much would it cost?
A: Rates vary depending on where you live, but men under 27 years of age pay more. In my state 16 year-olds are restricted to 250cc for a year.
Your choice of bikes is good but you might talk to your folks about insuring it and listing you as secondary driver. You'd still pay but it would be less if its in their name.
Q: 07 Honda Shadow Tires- is it OK to have a different tread pattern on the back tire?
07 Honda Shadow Tires- is it ok to have a different tread pattern on the back tire?
Just got a nail in my tire and you can't get the tires from dunlap you have to get them from Honda at $200, my question is can I get another brand for the rear. The parts guy said it would ride funny if I got another tire, is he just trying to sell me a $200 tire?
also when the nail went in it messed up the seal on 1 spoke is that a cheap fix?
A: It doesn't make any difference on the tread pattern, as long as it's the same size as the old one.
Q: How much is a 2007 Honda shadow aero worth?
I have a 2007 Honda Shadow aero with 50 miles in it. It has $750 damage on it which I will repair. I owned this bike for 4 days before the accident occurred. I live in New York. What price should I put on the bike. This was a new leftover when I bought it.
A: Around $4000.00 after it's fixed.
Q: How hard is it to replace the fork dust seals on a Honda shadow?
How hard is it to replace the dust seals on a Honda shadow that have dry rotted there is no oil leaking out of them. I have found them for $19 on ebay.
A: if they not leaking leave them a lone....and not so hard but you be better getting a book to show you how if you take them a part you will need to know what kind of oil and how much to get them back right and it is spring loaded so watch your head

I am trying to figure out the difference beween the honda magna i recently accuired and a honda shadow and i cannot find any information on the honda magna that is relevent to my questions can anyone help me out?
A: There is no 900cc magna if that's what 900 means in the title...
honda magna=4 cylinders, high-revving

magna-very very sporty cruiser
shadow-your more typical and economical cruiser
Q: How can I know the right price for a 1985 Honda Shadow?
Please supply me with links to retailers, or any "official price guide" or something like that...They're selling me a 1985 Honda Shadow at $2500, and I think that might be higher than what it's worth. The guy that posted the sale says it's a 1990, but after looking at the pictures long and hard and double checking through internet, I KNOW it's a 1985!

Q: How do I replace the petc0ck on my honda shadow?
I'm trying to figure out how to get the seat off so that I can get to the fuel tank better so that I can remove the petcock easier. Anyone know the trick to getting the seat off of a 98 honda shadow? or a place a could figure it out somehow?
A: You don't have to replace it, it's Japanese. You don't have to service those bikes ever. In fact, the seat probably doesn't come off because there is no reason for it to.
Q: how do you find a key code for a honda shadow spirit 2001? if the keys were both lost?
The keys to my 2001 Honda shadow 750 spirit were stolen. Looking to replace them as economically as possible.
A: you should be able to take the VIN to the dealer and get the key code from them.... the wise thing to do would be to replace the ignition if the thieves know where ther bike lives....they could follow you anywhere and just ride off with it....
Q: Kawasaki 440 ltd or Honda shadow vlx 600cc which is a better deal?

A: Maintance and repair are about equal on both machines which is really none. They are both real nice bikes.I like the 440ltd for it`s gas milage and the power will surprise you.Do your normal maintance and it will last forever.
Q: On a 1999 Honda Shadow ACE 750, can the original brushed aluminum engine be swapped with a chrome engine?
1999 Honda Shadow ACE 750
-Brushed Aluminum finish on the engine.
-Would like to find a newer chrome engine (same make) to swap out.
-Curious on the compatibility.
A: Engine chrome will often also "blue" from heat.
The nice Chrome you see on engines isn't in the cylinders or exhausts, usually. These are often covered with a chrome cover, to allow for heat dissapation from the aluminum and looks from the chrome cover.
Check into the newest laser cut cylinders, if yuo like the chrome look. the aluminum actually shines very similar to chrome, but with the laser cuts, gives even more eye appeal, and doesn't turn blue with the heat.
Q: What are some bad points of the Honda shadow aero 750?
I am thinking about buying a honda shadow aero 750.I heard about all the good points .I need to know about some of the bad stuff.
A: only bad point i could see when riding 1 was....handle bars were a bit too low for long legged riders. experienced riders can easily make a full fork lock turn in a parking lot. but having the bars bang into the knees while doing so throws ur balance off a bit when it's unexpected. u'll know the bars are too low if: when sitting on the bike in typical riding position with foot on the peg, turn the bars full left or right with the hands on the grips like normal.....if ur hands bang ur knees, the bars are a bit too low.
Q: 1998 Honda shadow 1100c sprint front fork seals are dry rotted they are not leaking is this a big deal?
I am thinking about buying a 1998 Honda Shadow 1100c sprint and the front fork seals are dry rotted some but they are not leaking is this a big deal? How hard and much would it cost to replace them.
A: That's just the dust boots, but they should be replaced. They aren't just there for looks. They keeps the crap from getting to the seals and eating them up.
Q: Does anyone know anything about honda shadow motorcycles?
I have recently purchased a 1984 Honda Shadow that was not running. I am trying to figure out why I have spark on one side of the bike and not on the other. The coils are supposed to be new. The plugs are also new. I have also tried a new ignitor box. I dont know alot about bikes so any information about this would be helpful. THANK YOU
Im sorry the bike is a 1984 Honda shadow 700
A: -Always give year, make, engine size and "model #" when asking questions.
-When you say you have spark on "one side", do you mean one cylinder? Each cyl has 2 spark plugs - left side & right side.
-If you mean one cyl, the pulse generator (inside L crankcase cover) will cause that problem. You'll need a shop manual (for specs) and multi-meter to test it.
-The coils are "supposed" to be new. If you want to check them without any testing equipment - Remove the good coil from the bike. Connect the wires from the bad coil to it and check for spark. As long as the bike is apart, check the bad coil the same way. Connect "it" to the good coil's wires.
-If you meant one spark plug on the same coil isn't getting spark, the spark plug cap could be bad or not making a good connection to the high tension lead. Unscrew a known working spark plug cap and screw it into the "no spark" wire. You can also cut a 1/4" of wire off the end of the high tension lead before screwing the cap on (in case the cap isn't making a good connection).
-That should be enough to check, to keep you busy for a while.
