Q: 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee will start in neutral but not in park?
I have a 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee (6 cyl, automatic, 2WD) will start in neutral but not in park. Based on a few searches it sounds like this could be a neutral safety switch problem? Could it be something but a neutral safety switch? Assuming it is the switch, what might it cost to repair, including parts and labor? Thanks for the info

A: It is simple to repair and not expensive.I think its the modulation.

Q: How to install amp and Subwoofer in stock jeep cherokee.?
I am planning on purchasing an amp and sub for a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. It has a stock system as is. What i was wondering was how hard would it be for a first timer such as myself to install these things? Also could you recommend any amps and or subs that are a good for starters and are cheap? Thanks. Jerryfan1123

A: You need a line output converter if the amp doesn't have speaker level inputs, it's pretty easy to install an aftermarket amp, the hardest thing would be to find a way to run the power wire for the amp from the battery to the rear, you will also need an amp wiring kit, as far as what you want it depends on your tastes in music and your budget, go to crutchfield.com for more info and options for your truck

Q: What is wrong with my air conditioner in my jeep cherokee?
I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The air conditioner seems to have a problem with it. It will be working fine, then it will stop blowing cold air and start blowing humid air with a musty kind of smell. I've heard this could be the compressor? Is this the likely cause? If so, what is a rough estimate on how much this will cost to be fixed? I'm mainly concerned on how much it will cost to fix.

A: Dryer DOES NOT dehumidify the air!!!!!! It has chemicals the remove moisture from the PRESSURIZED refrigerant, in your case R 134A Ok, when does this happen? Going down the road or at idle. If the electric fan is failing on the left side, this also hurts the A/C efficiency. My best guess is a low refrigerant charge. Next..If the refrigerant charge is low, the low pressure switch will kick out the compressor as the temperature gets colder. Yes, the pressure switch can go bad, but my first bet is just a low charge. You USED to be able to borrow gauges from auto parts store, but you need to know what you are doing. DO NOT just add coolant. Good Luck

Q: How to turn on remote start on a 2004 Jeep Cherokee using the door lock remote?
I have a 2004 Jeep Cherokee and today my niece was playing with my keys and accidently hit the panic button. When I tried turning it off I hit the door lock and unlock a few times and noticed that the car came on. I tried to recreate the same thing and It worked a second time. But when I tried again for a third time I just could not figure it out. Does anyone here know what the combination for a remote start using your remote would be?

A: try to press the LOCK button 3-4 times

Q: How often do you really need to tune up a Jeep Cherokee?
I have a 91' Jeep Cherokee. It's been over a year since I tuned it up. It's been over 20K. It runs fine. I think it may be due for one regardless. I'd just like to get your opinion regarding how often you need to tune them up and when do you know it needs it? Thanks.

A: There's only so much you can do to "tune-up" your Cherokee. A complete "tune-up' would be new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and air filter. You can not set the timing, there are no points or condenser, no setting point gap or dwell (meaning no "tuning") so it's just a matter of replacing parts. While you could go close to 100k on a full replacement a lot is going to depend on personal preference, budget and local weather driving conditions. I change the plugs in my Jeep every six months, I use an air filter that I can clean and re-install, I run an aftermarket ignition system but I also spend a lot of time doing rock crawling and desert driving which means a lot of fine, powdery dirt, high temps and occasional high rpms so I do maintenance much more often. At 20k miles check your air filter and either clean it if is a re-usable type or replace it if it's dirty, check your cap, rotor and wires, keep them clean, check for corrosion on the ends, cracks or wear, replace them if needed, you should be doing regular oil and filter changes at 3-5k miles. As for the spark plugs you can pull them out and see how they are burning but you can easily get 40-60k out of a set of plugs (use good plugs, I personally don't care for the platinum/premium plugs on a Jeep nor do I care for the extra cost, you won't get that much out of them on a 4.0 or 2.5). If you live in an area that is either very dry (desert) or wet a lot or there's salt on the roads check a little closer for corrosion, cracking and wear ( I would replace parts more often in severe conditions) And as for knowing when it needs it, if it tells you it needs it it's already too late. Do regular maintenance and don't wait for it break. You're better off spending the time and money to prevent problems than to fix them later.

Q: How do I replace the engine mounts on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
I have attempted to replace the engine mounts on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee and am currently having problems replacing the engine mounts. I cant seem to get the mounts to sit in place with hanging up or not sitting evenly.

A: Are they the correct size? How are you lifting the engine? May not be lifting the engine in an even way for the new mounts to fit right.

Q: What year is the grill on my Jeep Cherokee?
I have a "88" Cherokee ( or wha i have been told). I have two broken head lites and they are the smaller rectangular headlites where there are two on each side ( one high beam and one low). Every time that I look for headlites or anything for that matter for my Jeep i never get the right parts. What i end up finding are the more square headlites on every year model that I see. Do I have a "special" type model or am I just looking under the wrong stuff. I am dying for help on this. PLEASE PLEASE someone help me.

A: Go to Jeep Wrangler Parts and Accessories online. www4wd.com.

A: Weatherstripping... Check JCwhitney.com they should have replacements available for you. They have many good items on there and prices are not too bad either.

Q: What is this thing on my 1989 Jeep Cherokee?
I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee. Right above the rear view mirror (mounted on the ceiling) is a little box with a black lens on the end. If I pull on the lens, a small box (maybe 2"x4"x1") housing some electronic equipment comes out. That is connected to a plug with a few wires on it. I thought it might be a digital clock or compass or something but there is no screen so I do not think that is it. If someone could help me figue out what it is, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

A: Its the sensor for the keyless entry system. It was available on certain packages in 1989.

Q: I replaced the fuel filter on my 94 jeep cherokee and it wont start?
I replaced the fuel filter on my 94 jeep cherokee and it wont start, this problem began after I replaced my fuel filter. I made sure it was in correctly (the "out" is facing the engine) and there is fuel pressure at the engine. The engine is turning over fine everything electrical works. Any ideas? There is no air in the fuel lines. It is in correctly, the Haynes Jeep Cherokee automotive repair manual says to make sure the word out faces the engine, plus the one I took out was facing the same way as the one I put in. And the pump definitely works and I've run it to fill the fuel filter.

A: check for spark, if you have spark, check fuses for ecm, and fuel pump, its probably coincidental, or you need to replace the fuel filter again, new isnt laways good, have you ever heard of defective parts, some smart ass at the filter factory may have had a bad day and shoved a ball bearing in the filter, Ive seen stranger

Q: can i put a diesel engine in a jeep cherokee?
ok, so i found this 1998 jeep cherokee for only $1k, but it's a gas engine and it only gets 13 mpg, that's not good for me. i herd i could get a used diesel engine for like $1k and i know i can then use used cooking oil, but the question is - can i put a diesel engine in a jeep cherokee? do i need to get a new transmission or other parts? can someone give me step by step directions?

A: First, you have some serious issues with that Jeep. My 1990 with 190k on riding on 33" tires and only 3.55 gearing still gets about 17 mpg. But the Renault 2.1 turbo diesel was a factory option from 1985-1988. It had a rip-roaring 85 hp when new. They are hard to find, and parts are even harder to find. With enough money and time, you can fit another diesel. The Cummins 4bt will fit with ALOT of work. There is a swap on the net of a Cummins 4bt into a Comanche pick-up(same front half of the truck.)

Q: Where can I find information on How to change Brakes on 2005 Jeep cherokee?
I'd like to have step by step directions on how to change brakes on 2005 jeep grand cherokee. Thanks

Q: Does anyone know the average lifespan of a 1988 jeep cherokee?
We're looking into buying a 1988 Jeep Cherokee. It seems to be in good shape, with no mechanical errors. There's 170,000 miles on it. How much longer will the engine last?

A: my son has an 87 which he abuses daily with 250,000 + miles on it. something is always breaking though. just put a used x-fer case on it a month ago. always has electrical issues also. lights, ignition, etc. i suspect if he wasnt so rough on it alot of whats needed to be done to it would not have had to have been. he takes it offroad alot. has a lift and all that. be advised also that the entire vehicle was built around the heater core if you ever have to replace it. we just bypassed his. he can just be cold. unless you get this 88 for around 1000 dollars or less, look for something else. cant ignore that it is 20 years old.

Q: Does anyone have experience towing a horse using a jeep Cherokee or similar compact SUV?
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a type 111 hitch. I plan to add a trailer break system if I use it for the horse but I need to know if this is enough to make it safe. I have a large QH gelding and I am willing to purchase a single horse trailer or a small double. I need to stay in the $1,000 range. I have found one but I need to know if this is even possible for my vehicle to do safely. The single horse trailer I am looking at weighs in at 1600lbs. The two horse model is 1850. The one horse weighs about 1,000lbs. Is there a bigger towing advantage to the single than just those couple hundred lbs? Any suggestions?

A: I don't have any personal experience, but my sister in law tows her horses with her dodge dakota. I don't know any info about the vehicle other than it is the 4 door, 6 cyl. She has trailer brakes and also some type of weight distributor thingy she uses. You might want to take it to a trailer shop and find out what they suggest...
