Q: What is causing my Jeep Comanche to leak gas?
I have a 1989 Jeep Comanche 4.0 liter 4x4 that sometimes leaks gas. It leaks like a sieve when the truck is started in the morning, then stops leaking. We took it to the shop and they replaced the O ring. Now two months later it is leaking again when started, then seals itself and doesn't leak. What could this be?

A: the fuel pressure regulator on these leaks. i had one that ran me all over the place. I replaced all the o-rings w/ no luck. then I found it was the regulator assemby. these are kinda expensive new- try junk yards. good luck.

Q: jeep comanche?
where could i find a 3 inch body lift for a 1987 comanche ? Also, what about a replacement motor ( 4.0) ? I have looked all over the web and cannot find anything. How much would my gas mileage be affected with a 3 inch lift and 31 inch tires ?

A: the Comanche and the Cherokee have the same drive train i would recommend a 2 inch level kit it comes with 2 inch coil spring spacers for the front and shackles or blocks and new u-bolts for the rear i currently am running 31/11.50R15 on the stock suspension no lift and i have a very slight tire rub on the lower arms at full turn left or right to fix this problem new angled arms are needed personally i would stay away from body lifts suspension lifts work better as for the engine you can rebuild the 4.0L or find a crate engine it will most likely be cheaper to rebuild the engine try looking at Cherokee's for parts for the suspension quadratec is a good place to start or try www.ajeepthing.com that should get you started

Q: can you put jeep cherokee muffler on jeep comanche?
I am looking for a muffler for jeep comanche but can not locate one with out special order. but I can find a cherokee muffler. Anyone know if cherokee muffler will fit a comanche, with out too much trouble?

A: Yes, the jeep comanche (mj) is just a pick up body on the same frame as the cherokee (xj). The frame and drive-train are the same; so is the exhaust system. I have a 92 cherokee, and I've put comanche bumpers on while I fab some heavy duty ones of my own.

Q: Can a 1995 Jeep Wranglers engine be put into a 1987 Jeep Comanche?
I have a 1987 Jeep Comanche and have located someone with a 1995 Jeep Wrangler. Before buying the engine, I need to know if they are interchangeable or not. If there is anyone that can help me with this, I would really appreciate it. :) Thanks. The 1987 Comanche is a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine. The 1995 Wrangler engine has the same details. Can they be swapped out?

A: Yes. BUT...You'll have to pass smog for 1995 and take it to a smog only referee. Definitely not worth the hassle.

Q: When the left turn signal is activated, Why does it cause my dash lights to blink in My Jeep Comanche?
Also. When the headlights are on and I activate the left turn signal, it is on but, doesn't blink, and also when the brakes are applied the dash lights come on. How do I test for a short?

A: You have a bad ground. Check the lamp grounds, at the core support and under the back near the taillights. Could also be a ground connection in one of the sockets. The current is "searching" for a ground and back feeding though the lamp filament back to the effected circuit.~Dan

Q: Where do I put the brake fluid in a 84 jeep comanche?
There are a couple of empty containers attached to the innards of what's under my hood. One has a tube running to the radiator, the other i'm not sure where it goes. I wonder if one's maybe engine coolant, or brake fluid, or windsheild wiper fluid. I don't want to put the wrong liquid in the wrong container, and break down. PLEASE HELP!

A: the one with the tube running from the raditator is most likely the antifreeze resivor. the brake master cylinder is on the left(drivers side) of engine compartment at top of fire wall, virtually forward and higher than the brake petal. and will have 2 small steel lines running from it in the downward direction.

Q: jeep comanche - what is the wire sleeve called that is on the engine?
I am trying to replace the sleeve that holds a bunch of wires, it is just above the exhaust headers next to the engine. But I can not figure out what it is called. Anyone know the name of it or how I can find out what it is called?

A: it`s called wire "loom" it comes in several sizes and you can get it from NAPA auto parts.

Q: Will a Jeep 4.0L straight 6 engine fit in a Jeep Comanche?
i have a 4.0 engine and i found a jeep comanche that needs an engine, so i was wandering if i could swap engines.

A: yes it will but you need to change the tyranny also and the mounts

Q: I just took my front bumper of my 1991 jeep Comanche. When it got off there was a plastic bubble behind it.?
I was wondering what it is it has a little black line running to it?

A: It's a vacuum canister. There could be one of two types depending on the configuration of your particular Cherokee. There is a single-hose, round, ball-shaped one that is the vacuum canister for the heater and AC (HVAC) controls and a dual hose, kinda football/pill-shaped one for the HVAC and cruise control retainer for Cherokees with cruise control Most people relocate it up in to the engine compartment and mount of the passenger side fender well.

Q: Is there anyone out here that knows what colors the ignition wires are on a Jeep Comanche 1986 model?

A: look on the stering shaft and follow down to the fire wall by your feet and there should be a plug that goes through the fire wall and plugs into the outside of the firewall. i think there is a yellow a red and iam not sure of the other ones there should be 4 or 5 coming up the steering shaft you will see them if you look close

Q: 87 jeep comanche with aisin wanrner 4 transmision what type of Transmission fluid do you use?

A: you can ask any part guy or girl at your local part store but I would use a universal type that is say ok in jeep or chrysler.

Q: I have a jeep comanche 2.5 liter that will always start cold but warm it just turns over till its cold again?

A: Sounds like the temperature sensor is going bad. It is telling the computer that it is to hot to run, so it will not start until it cools down. Change out the temp. sensor.

Q: More jeep comanche problems, what voltage should be at the wires connecting to the ignition control module?
I tested the ignition switch, and its getting power in start and run. When i look at the Ignition control modual, their are 2 harnesses going into it, one with 3 prongs one with 2. Both have yellow wires. The 2 pronds has one yellow wire, and nothing in the other prong, and in start and run that gets around 5.1 volts. In the 3 wire harness the other yellow wire gets 12 volts. Is this a clue as to whats wrong? One yellow wire comes from the ECU, one comes from the switch. Basically what im asking is does the ECU put out 12 volts normally? is this 5.1 reading a problem? The schematics show one coming from the keyswitch and one frmo the ECU, but its impossible to tell which is which. If anyone has any insight it would be extremely helpful, thankyou. Its a 1988 jeep comanche 4x4 with the 4.0 strait six. It starts up and dies. However if you hold the keyswitch in the on position it continues to run.

A: 12 volts

Q: Can't keep my 1992 Jeep Comanche running. It will kick over, but die as soon as I take foot off accelerator.
I turn key to start truck and it will start up with a little goosing of the accelerator. To keep it running, I have to keep goosing it. If I take my foot off the accelator it will die. I have replaced Spark Plugs and Wires, Distributor Cap and Rotor. In the past year, I have replaced MAP Sensor, Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, Fuel Filter, Idle Air Control Valve, Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator. Not sure what else I can do but take it to a shop and get ripped off. Is there a chance it could be the Fuel Pump? Someone told me, if it was the Fuel pump, being electric, it wouldn't be able to keep running at all even if I kept goosing the accelerator. Is this true? I am at a loss and really don't want to have to put it in a shop after I have already put this much time and money into it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx for your time.

A: Check your throttle body, IAC motor, and fuel injectors. Make sure something is not impeding your airflow into the engine. Your problem sounds like an air/fuel delivery problem. Also, make sure your IAC motor is actually working. Just because you replaced it doesn't mean it will work if there isn't any voltage to it. If it is inoperative, it will not open up when you let off the throttle and will choke off the engine. Check it out. Lastly, check the fuel injectors. If they are dirty and/or getting clogged, then the short pulse width at idle may not be enough to keep the engine running. Hope this helps.

Q: Where are the timing marks on the timing gears in a 1988 Jeep Comanche?
It's a 2.5L 4 cylinder

A: It should be right behind the fan. On the crank shart. placing the timing light on the #1 spark plug and the distributor cap and pointing the light behind the fan should reveal the mark when the strobe flashes. If you don't see the marks and the engine is running then you did not hook it up right (the engine is running so it can't be that far off) if you set it up right you will see two marks. SO advancing or retarding the distributor column (loosen with Allen wrench under cap) will get the two marks closer. BUT just because they line up doesn't mean its perfect. Slightly one Way or another is OK if it runs better.
